This statue of Shakyamuni Buddha is one of the older pieces in the Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art’s collection and the perfect place to start our weekly look into the museum’s pieces! In this statue, Shakyamuni Buddha (the Historical Buddha) is depicted with his head tilted to the side. Hardly any similar statues of Shakyamuni Buddha have their heads bent like this. It’s unlikely that this was a flaw in the casting given the work’s quality and there aren’t any signs of damage on the work. This is just one of the many unique pieces in the museum’s collection that we’re excited to share!
